Sydney Applauds South Australian Winery - Kilikanoon

KILIKANOON named MOST SUCCESSFUL WINERY at Australia’s most prestigious wine event, the Sydney International Wine Competition.

The announcement was made at a gala banquet held at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel.

Founded in 1997 by its winemaker, Kevin Mitchell, Kilikanoon is a small, family-run company based in South Australia’s Clare Valley wine region.

According to Competition Director, Warren Mason, “this award is usually won by medium to large or very large wineries”, so to be won by a small, family-run winery is quite outstanding.

The winner is determined by aggregating each winery’s award winners with 3 points awarded to a TOP 100 wine, 2 points awarded to a Blue-Gold wine and 1 point awarded to a Highly Commended wine.

In over 2,000 entries Kilikanoon’s achievement of 3 TOP100 wines, 5 Blue-Gold wines and 1 Highly Commended over 6 different wines is quite sensational.

Kilikanoon achieved Top 100 status for its 2007 Barrel Fermented Semillon; 2005 Covenant Shiraz and its entry level Killerman’s Run 2006 Shiraz. These three wines also achieved Blue-Gold
awards along with the Kilikanoon 2008 Morts Block Watervale Riesling and the Kilikanoon 2006 ‘The Medley’ Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre. The Kilikanoon 2006 Prodigal Grenache was Highly Commended displaying impressive depth across the Kilikanoon portfolio.
